Disney+ was Introduced and Today the World Changed

Disney+ streaming was long expected and, as luck may have it, when it finally arrived on November 12, 2019, there were technical issues getting logged in and streaming video. But, hey, issues are to be expected in the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).

Since I could not help fix the issues…..I simply waited a few hours, then…….

I downloaded the Disney+ app on my Pixel 3 XL, signed up for the free week, and used Chromecast (our new Sony A8G, 4k, UHD, 65 inch TV has Chromecast embedded) to watch the 2019 live version of “Lady and the Tramp” (read my movie review here). The video quality was perfect, the audio was perfect, and, best of all, the happy feeling of watching a terrific Disney movie made me feel like a kid again.

I knew…..just like I knew that VUDU was something special that I had just witnessed a world changing event.

Yes…..Disney + is world changing. Mark my words!

Everyone with kids, and everyone who was a kid, will want this service. I want it! Lori still needs convincing, but, I have a free week to convince her to jump on board. 🙂

I’ll say it again: Disney+, even though it is not ground-breaking technology, has changed the streaming world, and possibly, movie theater attendance forever. The reason is….well, Disney.

The world will never be the same. (Did I say that already?)

I then watched several “shorts” with Kristen and Lori and then the first episode of “The Mandalorian” by myself. OMG.

After testing with Chromecast I then I downloaded the Disney+ app on the Sony A8G TV.

Wow!

Caveats

There are contractual issues that are holding quite a few movies back from being on Disney+ for awhile (and I read that some may come and go over the years for the same contractual reasons). For example, “Mary Poppins Returns” is NOT available for streaming until 2020 or 2021 (it is the last Disney movie to go to outside contract). While “Captain Marvel” is available now (in fact, it is the first to be solely on Disney+ when it’s theater run had finished).

Not to worry though, time heals all contracts. And, eventually, ALL Disney content will be on Disney+. 🙂

Conclusion

When I first saw the Apple iPhone, VUDU, and a few other technologies like the transistor, Internet, email, videoconferencing, etc. I knew there was something special afoot.

I had that same feeling today.

Mark my words…..Nov 12, 2019 is a day that will change the world. A pivot point.

Geek On!
