UPDATE January 2023: A HISTORY Lesson from 2011……enjoy!
Steve Jobs (YES!) announced today that the iPad 2 will be released March 11th.
I went to the spec page, grabbed the screen shots, and tried to learn a bit more about the cameras (yes there are now two) and video conferencing capabilities.
The iPad 2 will come in two flavors: WiFi only (802.11a/b/g/n) and WiFi + 3G (looks like both AT&T and Verizon). It will have 16Gig or 32 Gig or 64 Gig of RAM (do they still call it RAM???).
One source (that sounds official doesn’t it?) says it will do Facetime video chat and I believe that, but, I wonder if it will use 3G, or just WiFi? Oddly, I can’t find mention of video conferencing on the spec page….DUH.
Almost as interesting….the spec page mentions that “video will support H.264” at up to 720p (the front camera is VGA quality, while the back camera supports up to 720p). Does that mean Apple video conferencing will be able to talk to other standards-based videoconferencing equipment?
Anyway…it will be interesting to see…
