  • Google Dumps Wave

So maybe I am a late breaking blog?  How funny.  On that note:  Did anyone see the effects of the solar storm?  I did not. Anyway….I was reading ComputerWorld online today and saw that Google has dropped WAVE. No surprise there. AltamontCowork member, Phil, and I played with it last year (when we finally got…

  • Broadband Expansion

CNN reports today that President Obama announced the support for the expansion of broadband into areas that are lacking this connectivity now. Here is the CNN video: http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/apps/cvp/3.0/swf/cnn_416x234_embed.swf?context=embed&videoId=tech/2010/07/02/obama.broadband.comment.cnn Awesome!  Let there be high speed access….everywhere.  Then maybe telecommuting will flourish (oh, maybe not…the OFB’s have to retire first…arrgghhh)…. 🙂

  • Cisco Cius

UPDATE August 17, 2023: Consider this a HISTORY lesson in videoconferencing / Personal Telepresence (which is the term and concept I developed way back in the dark ages). A friend works at WebEx (now Cisco) and put a link for this video up on Facebook today. Now that videoconferencing is real (thanks Steve Jobs) does…

  • Living in the Cloud

OK, this was eye-opening. At last night’s GeekMeet meeting at AltamontCowork, member Phil showed us how he could boot up his new Netbook with several different Operating Systems (Chrome OS, Android OS, Windows 7, and three flavors of Linux) each loaded on their own SD memory card (4 Gig). Very impressive. Since I use Google…

  • Google TV

Related to yesterday’s blog posting (funny how I timed that blog entry…completely random, believe me), this article on Computerworld tells us that Google, Sony, and Logitech are planning to introduce an Internet capable (smart) TV. This Android-based TV (sure hope it will be High Def…interesting, Friend Paul posted this link on Facebook that mentions 1080p…

  • ReadyTalk: A Quick Peek

Rating:  3 WaterTowers (a web conferencing application) I had heard about ReadyTalk from some friends.  Not one to pass up an opportunity to test an application that I had never heard of, I went to the ReadyTalk web site to download and try the demo. Unfortunately, to participate in the “trial” (you know I like…

  • Glance Review

UPDATE July 2023: The pics are gone, I have no idea where they went, but, consider this blog a HISTORY lesson on the beginnings of web conferencing. 🙂 Rating: 4 WaterTowers In previous blog entries I have reviewed full-featured web conferencing applications. Initially, I had classified Glance in that class. What I found out is…

  • Personal Telepresence – The Original

    Personal Telepresence – The Original

With all the hoopla about “Personal Telepresence”, I dug up this 1994 video segment showing our “Personal Telepresence” concept of 1992 (see this link for the original abstract (or this newer link). This video is using the CLI Cameo which was the very first desktop videoconferencing system….enjoy.  By the way, we are the ones who…

  • Netbriefings Proclaim Works with WordPress

I received an email from Netbriefings announcing that Proclaim (which I think is terrific) now allows a blogger using WordPress technology (this blog is not, as far as I know) to very easily record a Proclaim video/audio and presentation stream, save it, and post it on a blog.Jeanneane Kloss from Netbriefings set me up with…

  • GoToMeeting Review

    GoToMeeting Review

Rating: 3.5 WaterTowers I have been seeing ads in magazines and on TV touting the virtues of GoToMeeting. Being the curious type, I went to the web site to download and try the free demo. Unfortunately, when I filled out the form they asked for my credit card information….no way. Not that they would get…
