I switched from Xfinity to YouTube TV during the 2025 Super Bowl and was shocked to see a very crappy picture!
I checked my network speed and it was normal around 500 Mbps down, sooooooo….
I looked at the YouTube TV stats and control stuff…..
It turns out that YouTube TV Auto adjusted my Sony A8G HDTV down to 480p standard definition! See pic below.

WTF?
I quickly moved the resolution to the “720p60 Enhanced” option and enjoyed a very good to excellent picture for the remainder of the Eagles win! See pic below.

I looked again this morning and the resolution was set to 1080p, but at least it was in the location I set it to during the Super Bowl.

How often is YouTube going to change resolutions?
And Why?
Moral of this story: NEVER trust “Auto” resolution to work properly!
Stay tuned for the more detailed “YouTube Test #5” coming in a month or so……now that Xfinity has moved the SF Giants to a higher cost package.
GEEK ON!
More GEEK stuff….
